During the month of October it’s possible for me to support breast cancer awareness in the following ways: I could eat a pink bagel in the morning; style my pink hair extensions; whip up a batch of cookies using a pink Kitchen Aid; go target shooting with a pink-handled Smith & Wesson handgun; watch my favorite NFL team score a touchdown in pink apparel; and, finally end my day with a relaxing pink bubble bath along with a pink ribbon rubber duckie.  Like the rest of the world, I could literally be bathed in pink to demonstrate my support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Afnan Picture

The Baltimore AMA was proud to honor Afnan Idris, Professional Development Chair for Salisbury University’s AMA chapter, volunteer of the month in September. Afnan does an excellent job connecting other local collegiate AMA chapters with the Baltimore chapter through event planning and social media. Even though she is our youngest board member, she has proved to be a natural networker by securing dynamic speakers to plan and promote successful events for her local chapter.

In addition to her work with the AMA, Afnan is the emerging face of student business leaders at Salisbury University, with award winning pursuits of professional development and leadership skills.  With work experience in the Middle East, pursuing a dual major in Marketing/Information Systems, and a minor in Spanish, Afnan is creating the new standard of being a well-rounded student. Recently, she has developed a new Professional Development Series through AMA Salisbury to assist fellow students to enhance personal development, strengthen leadership, and expand their networks.

Congrats Afnan! We’re proud to call your our own. Keep up the great work!

Consider this recipe for marketing video success…

  • An off-the-cuff message
  • $150 flip cam
  • an office manager/camera operator
  • 10 minutes

I smiled as I came across a recent Baltimore Business Journal advice column that touted this formula for creating sales growth.  With my 18 plus years of professional video services experience, I must say that I have never offered such advice, but the topic does allow us to explore where quality and value need to meet for your company’s best marketing video interests.

I have been asked many times in recent years if the explosion of low priced cameras and edit systems has had an effect on our video production and studio business.  Thankfully the answer is no and for good reason.  Professional video services are distinguished in many ways, among them are creative experience, reliability, track record of success and professional equipment in terms of camera, lighting, audio and computer based editing.  These are basically the same levels of professionalism that distinguish the professional marketer from the beginner or amateur. Gentlemen & women, start your engines!

In the next few days, race fans from all over the world will converge in downtown Baltimore to witness the excitement of the Grand Prix.  We expect to make a lot of noise as a city – literally and figuratively.

Likewise, the Baltimore Chapter of the AMA has kicked it into hire gear.  Our new board of directors created our chapter plan and budget, and sent it to AMA International Headquarters on August 1, a requirement for all chapters in AMA.  With the plan as our tactical guide for navigating the 24+ events and programs we are in the process of scheduling for 2011-12, we are off to the races, and looking forward to another great year of high level networking and valuable programming.
