The AMA Baltimore hosted two volunteer appreciation events this year to reward our hard-working board members and volunteers. The first was at Taverna Corvino in November 2010 and our latest and greatest event was in mid-June at Matsuri.
We know how hard our volunteers work to keep the AMA Baltimore running like clockwork and every now and then we like to all get together to socialize and have some tongue-in-cheek awards.

So I was sending out rapid-fire emails yesterday morning like I do every day, and after a few hours I started to wonder why no one was writing back. To my horror, I realized that I was sending out all of my work emails under my Aunt’s Gmail (email) account instead of my business email address.

Event Description: The Baltimore Chapter of the AMA presents an evening with Marshall Haine, Global Operations: Commercial/Retail Innovation Leader for P&G. With about 4.2 billion of the 6.5 billion people on the planet using their brands today, P&G knows a thing or two about consumer shopping habits. The landscape for marketers is far more fragmented and the shopper and consumer have more power than ever before. Marshall will discuss how shoppers interact with a company’s products or services (their “path to purchase”) and how P&G have focused on shopper centric commercial innovation.
Join us and apply some of P&G’s consumer research on the future of retail to your own business. Through examples, attendees will learn how:
- The underlying trends will impact shopper behavior
- To engage a broad variety of individuals from different disciplines

Event Description: Join the Baltimore Chapter of the AMA for an exciting evening with Chuck Shively, McCormick & Company’s Director of Sales & Marketing.
The traditional method of targeting potential customers has changed. Are you familiar with the latest targeting models? Mr. Shively will discuss how he approaches understanding the marketplace and product line(s) and then determines the best sales approach. Having lots of customers isn’t always the best way to gain sales share- it’s having the most profitable customers who best match what you have to offer.
Attendees will learn the traditional four quadrants of market segmentation [Product Development, Diversification, Market Development and Penetration] and then overlay the Tracey model of Low Cost Producer, Customer Intimacy and Innovation sales approach to show how to best fit your sales approach to the business plan. Creating a focus on identifying the potential buyer [who you're selling to] has shifted in the past years to a more comprehensive approach of fitting the consumer’s lifestyle to your value proposition. No one approach is wrong, but you have to be able to leverage your competencies in a way which best fits the available market to gain maximum sales revenue with minimum resource expense.
About Chuck Shively:
Mr. Shively is the Director of Sales & Marketing with McCormick & Co’s industrial group – the “business to business” side which services consumer food manufacturers. Beginning as a product manager in the spices & herb side of the business managing pepper, cinnamon and kola nuts, he has been with McCormick since 1989. McCormick is a global leader in the manufacture, marketing and distribution of spices, herbs, seasonings, specialty foods and flavors to the entire food industry.
