Baltimore’s American Marketing Association announces the 2010 Marketing Excellence and Marketing Education Scholarship Winners.

The Baltimore Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA), Baltimore announces the winners of the 2010 Marketing Excellence Awards. The annual awards are given to an individual or organization that plans and implements the best regional marketing campaign from the previous year and can demonstrate the campaign’s success with measurable results. A panel of judges chose the top entry from each category to be presented at the awards banquet which was held at the Inn & Spa at the Colonnade on June 3.

This year, the AMA awarded six winners from the following categories: Education – Baltimore City Community College, Financial Services – AscendOne, Non-profit – The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, Retail – Prime Retail, Local Campaign – Baltimore Gas & Electric Company and Other – Nissan Cube.

Another highlight of the evening was the announcement of this year’s AMA Education Merit Scholarship award that is given to a full-time undergraduate student who is pursuing studies in marketing or a marketing-related field. Scholarships are based on the applying students’ academic successes, work experience, extracurricular activities, and aspirations towards careers in marketing.

This year’s very deserving scholarship winners are:

Katherine Breen, a 4.0 GPA marketing major at the University of Maryland. Katie worked with a team of Maryland AMA student members on the Chevy Chase Challenge, an environmental sustainability campaign in the town of Chevy Chase.  Her team’s work garnered them a national AMA award. Katie will be a junior in the fall and hopes to work in the area of brand marketing after graduation.

Nikki Jiam, who is a junior at Johns Hopkins University, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Entrepreneurship and Management.  Nikki has been an active leader both on campus and in the Baltimore community.   After graduation she wants be a marketer in the non-profit sector, hopefully focused on green marketing.

Ashly Oehrl, a senior at Towson University, majoring in Mass Communications and Writing.  She would like to work in advertising after graduation.  She is currently the managing editor of Grub Street, Towson’s literary and arts magazine.  She has had the opportunity to publish and do public readings of her poetry.
