The 2022 MX Awards are open for entries. The MX Awards has always been a competition for marketers that do more than what’s expected, and this year is no different. Creative teams are invited to enter their work for elements of marketing, integrated campaigns, digital/interactive, and print. Need a little inspiration for your submission? Here are a few tips from past MX Awards winning teams:
Why Enter?
“The MX Awards are about more than just the big night. The process gives us the rare opportunity to reflect and hone in on our strengths as an organization. The entries themselves become case studies that we use over and over again. And, of course, each win gives us invaluable third-party credibility. It’s ultimately a triple-powered business development tool for our organization.”
Casey Boccia, Creative Director, Devaney & Associates, Inc.
“The MX Awards shine an important light on all the great work being done here in Maryland.”
Jim McNulty, Creative Director, Gigawatt Group
“The MX Awards is an event that further confirms the local and regional talent we have here in Baltimore. It is great to sit back and see what other organizations are producing. It is also humbling to have your own work rise to the top amongst these folks as a winner.”
Andy Locke, Director of Strategy and Data, Response Labs
Submission Tips
“Remember to always have your submission tell a story of impact. That means bringing it back to the objective and how your work positively achieved or effective it. Showing success measurements through ROI or positive growth makes your submission tell that story more colorfully.”
Michael Tirone, Senior Vice President, CX, Digital, Weber Shandwick
“Think about the work you’ve done that really stands out in your mind. Rather than looking at categories first, start by choosing the marketing deliverables that have really made a difference and see which category they fit best into.”
Timm Baldwin, Associate Vice President, Marketing and Brand Strategy, Towson University
“The key to a successful awards submission is its ability to demonstrate how your organization uniquely approached, developed, and deployed what will be an award-winning solution. If anywhere in the submission your company’s name can be replaced with another, then more points of difference are needed. Top industry awards like the MX Awards are a great way to shine a spotlight on your teams’ talent and successes while having your company’s expertise recognized by industry peers and business partners.”
Matt Andrews, Internal Marketing Director, Mindgrub
“Timing. It’s everything – try to give yourself enough space and time to consider your entry from all angels. So much work went into the accomplishment, be sure to give it what it deserves as you create the award submission. Every word truly counts – literally. It can be hard to pull back on words when you’re passionate about telling a great, meaningful, story. Just be sure those words speak to the core of what makes your entry great and let your brand and accomplishments shine through.”
Katie Leineweber, AVP, Brand Strategy, SECU
“The experience of applying for AMA Baltimore’s MX Award was a breeze! It helped to have my team members involved in the process, given the number of people involved in the project we submitted for an award. And then to win the award… such a great feeling of accomplishment and success. We continue to market the award to clients and prospects looking for the same type of project. We take great pride in our association with AMA Baltimore and the MX Awards.”
Chad Bauer, Managing Director, SR&B Advertising
Celebrating Your Team
We spent over a year working on our 100th Anniversary culminating in a video that was meant to capture our mission. It was a collaborative effort both internally and externally. To be recognized for those efforts was truly meaningful for all of us involved.
Jonathan Balog, Chief Communications Officer, Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc.
“Winning the MX Award for ‘Best Nonprofit Campaign’ in 2019 was a great achievement for Fifteen4 and our client, CRS. It was a chance to demonstrate to the entire Baltimore marketing community how our agency can produce amazing creative for an important cause. We can’t wait to win another one!”
Will Smallman, Managing Director, Fifteen4
“I was surprised at how excited my team was about submitting a campaign to the MX Awards, and when we received some recognition they all felt very proud.”
Burke Cueny, Vice President of Marketing, Alliance Franchise Brands
“Who doesn’t like a party? Attending the awards event virtually or in person builds community. We are all in this together even if we aren’t working at the same agency. The awards event is an opportunity to come together and celebrate each other.”
Jen Kozak, Founder, KLUTCH, Inc.
