The Baltimore Chapter of the American Marketing Association is an entirely volunteer-run organization. Each quarter, the Chapter selects a Featured Volunteer in order to recognize the extraordinary effort of these hard-working and dedicated individuals. The Featured Volunteers are nominated and voted on by the Chapter’s Executive Board.
Jessica Lewis of the Marketing and Communications Committee has been selected as the Featured Volunteer for Winter 2020. Lewis is a senior marketing specialist on the consumer engagement and analytics team at Laureate Online Education. As a CRM marketing strategist, she uses marketing automation to deliver a personalized customer experience by optimizing messaging and the customer journey for prospects.
Lewis was inspired to volunteer with AMA Baltimore after attending chapter events and talking to chapter president Brynn Devereaux. “I have always loved writing and reporting and I wanted to give back to AMA and volunteer for something that is outside of my typical day job,” says Lewis. As a member of the Marketing and Communications Committee, Lewis highlights the members and leaders of AMA Baltimore through an ongoing series of case studies. “I interview them on their personal interests, professional career, and what keeps bringing them back to AMA. These case studies help demonstrate AMA Baltimore as a thought leader and a valuable group for local marketers.”
In addition to the development and writing process, Lewis has enjoyed gaining new perspectives on career paths in marketing. “I have always found learning about other people’s career paths fascinating. It’s so interesting to learn about what people studied in college, their very first jobs, and where they are now in their career. It always surprises me and shows that there is no ‘one size fits all’ for a career path,” she says.
“Jessica’s contributions have been instrumental in helping us provide informative and engaging content for our website while showcasing our members and volunteers,” says Devereaux. “We are grateful for her thoughtful storytelling and insight.”
AMA Baltimore has allowed Lewis to “meet some really interesting people in industries I’ve never heard of or thought marketers could be involved in. I have learned a lot through AMA Baltimore personally and professionally and hope to continue to contribute.”
