The Baltimore Chapter of the American Marketing Association is an entirely volunteer-run organization. Each month, the Chapter selects a Volunteer of the Month in order to recognize the extraordinary effort of these hard-working and dedicated individuals. The Volunteers of the Month are nominated and voted on by the Chapter’s Executive Board.

Katie Bush of the Programming Committee has been selected as the Volunteer of the Month for June 2017. She is the community relations director for Volo City, which provides sports leagues and wellness events for the Baltimore community, as well as free leagues and meals for kids in Baltimore City through the Volo City Kids Foundation. Bush manages strategic partnerships with sponsors, corporate partners and community/local government leaders, performing a range of sales, marketing and customer service functions.

Bush’s responsibilities on the Programming Committee include coordinating with speakers and venues, organizing catering, setting up registration and promotional marketing of each event, which number about a dozen per year. The role is a natural outgrowth of her career and personal interests: “The committee strives to achieve the perfect blend of networking, education and fun at our events. I’ve always had an interest in events and education. I love meeting new people at new places, while learning new things.”

Liz Breaux, vice president of programming, praised Bush’s contributions. “Katie has been a big help in coordinating the events we’ve had this year. She is always willing to step up and fill critical needs both in advance and during an event.”

Volunteering with AMA Baltimore has enabled Bush to not only enhance her professional skills but also make valuable connections. “I’ve learned that the best networking comes from volunteering. Volunteering has allowed me to grow my network tremendously through serving with other volunteers, as well as coordinating with host venues, speakers and sponsors. It’s a great way to meet like-minded individuals who also believe in the “give to get” principle in business.”
