AMA in the PM: She-Suite Marketing Leadership Panel

The glass ceiling is ever-present for female executives. And now more than ever, the female workforce is facing an even greater sense of pressure with the pandemic, work-life balance, and the changing marketing landscape.

The path to the C-Suite is full of twists and turns, and opportunities can come from the most unlikely places. Female leadership is bringing immense value to their organizations, ranking 50% higher when women are well represented at the top, according to a recent McKinsey’s Women in the Workplace 2020 report. That’s why we’re bringing you the She-Suite Marketing Leadership Panel for our upcoming AMA in the PM event.

Get ready for a few of the area’s female marketing powerhouses to drop some serious knowledge. On Tuesday, March 16, during Women’s History Month, AMA Baltimore will host a signature event, the She-Suite Marketing Leadership Panel featuring extraordinary female leaders in Baltimore.

Gain exclusive industry insights on everything from key marketing trends to effective ROI measurement to the latest audience connection strategies. The panelists will offer perspectives on what it takes to be a marketing leader and share their journeys to the C-Suite. The She-Suite Marketing Leadership Panel will include the following top-level executives:

  • Jarnell Swecker, SVP and Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer, United Way of Central Maryland – Since 2019, Jarnell has led the marketing, business development, affinity membership, and digital services teams, working to drive growth and relevance of the nonprofit organization. She leads her division’s vision and operations, creating and executing innovative business models, technology platforms, communications, and partnership strategies to increase awareness of United Way’s work and its value to the community.
  • Stacey Ullrich, Head of Global Community Impact, Under Armour – With her leadership, Stacey is responsible for the strategic direction and implementation of the company’s shared responsibility strategy, global investment partnership portfolio and community outreach programs, as well as oversight and management of the Under Armour Foundation. Stacey has held positions with Constellation, Feats, and the PGA Tour.
  • Becky Smith, EVP, Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer, SECU Credit Union – Responsible for developing and executing SECU’s long-term plans and initiatives, Becky also oversees the credit union’s internal and external marketing and communications to build on its reputation as a reliable, member-centric brand setting new standards for innovative products and experiences. Becky’s oversight includes marketing, advertising, corporate communications, member experience, community outreach, digital and business intelligence. Her background includes 20+ years of agency and client-side experience. She was recognized as one of the top CMOs in 2019 by DCA Live and has won multiple industry awards, including CMO Council Marketing Innovation Award, a DMA International ECHO Award and multiple Gold Stevie Awards for Brand Experience and Sales Enablement.
  • Jessica Watson, CEO & Creative Director, Points North Studio – With over a decade of experience in marketing and design, Jessica heads a creative services company based in Baltimore. She is a Brand and Communications Strategist who partners with dynamic companies and organizations to transform where they are into where they want to be. Jessica knows what truly drives brand loyalty and conversions—and it’s not about jumping on the bandwagon of the latest trend, it’s about the passion you have for your work and how you connect with the people you serve.

Guests will not only benefit from the panelists’ personal leadership stories, but also a series of tactical and strategic tips for career growth and making it to top executive levels.

Meet the Panel

Jarnell SweckerJarnell Swecker
SVP and Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer, United Way of Central Maryland

Jarnell Swecker is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer for United Way of Central Maryland. Swecker leads her division’s vision and operations, creating and executing innovative business models, technology platforms, communications, and partnership strategies to increase awareness of United Way’s work and its value to the community. She inspires her team to make bold moves, take risks, and develop transformational ideas.

Swecker joined United Way in 2019 and leads the marketing, business development, affinity membership, and digital services teams, working to drive growth and relevance of the nonprofit organization, which strengthens lives and neighborhoods across Greater Baltimore. She is also a member of the organization’s Executive Management Team.

An MBA graduate of University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, Swecker has more than 18 years of results-oriented accomplishments in driving community change, revenue generation, strategic planning, and marketing. She brings diverse and innovative strategies—gained from her work in the corporate, commercial real estate, higher education, and government sectors—to her work at United Way.

Most recently, she served as Vice President of Marketing for Rappaport, a commercial real estate developer committed to enhancing neighborhoods through thoughtful retail planning. Previously, she developed communications and programs that benefitted vulnerable public housing residents and struggling small U.S. manufacturers. Swecker also drove the mid-Atlantic automotive field marketing strategy for XM Radio, and continues to utilize the skills acquired as a four-time national championship cheerleading coach at University of Maryland to energize and inspire her teams.

Swecker is known to be a determined problem solver and passionate goal accelerator known for her high energy, creativity and perseverance. She embodies United Way’s commitment to serving others, volunteering her time and expertise through mentorship, equity initiatives, and pro bono business consulting.

Jarnell enjoys a good practical joke and making people laugh—and even was married in a surprise wedding on April Fool’s Day. When she is not transferring executive-level vision to front-line execution, Swecker takes immense joy in experiencing the world with her energetic toddler and husband in Howard County, Maryland.

Stacey UllrichStacey Ullrich
Head of Global Community Impact, Under Armour

Stacey M. Ullrich is the head of Global Community Impact and Community Affairs at Under Armour and the Executive Director of the UA Foundation. Ullrich is responsible for the strategic direction and implementation of the company’s shared responsibility strategy, global investment partnership portfolio and community outreach programs, as well as oversight and management of the Under Armour Foundation.

Prior to joining Under Armour, Ullrich held leadership positions with Constellation, Feats, and the PGA TOUR. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, from Missouri State University. As a life-long learner, Ullrich is an active participant with the Conference Board, alumni of Leadership Maryland, a Weinberg Foundation Israel Mission Alumni and actively participants in roles focused on building stronger communities.

As part of her commitment to the community, Stacey serves in a variety of leadership roles including the board of Business Volunteers Maryland, Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, Center Club, Project Pnuema, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore, Inc., and University System of Maryland Foundation. Additionally, she serves as an advisor for the National Afterschool Association and Two Ten Foundation Social Services and is the Past Chair of the Governor’s Commission of Service and Volunteerism.

A resident of Howard County, Maryland, Stacey is married and has four children.

Becky SmithBecky Smith
EVP, Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer, SECU Credit Union

Becky Smith is Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer for SECU. She is responsible for developing and executing the long-term plans and initiatives required for SECU to achieve its strategic and financial objectives. In addition she is responsible for all of SECU’s internal and external marketing and communications as the credit union builds on its reputation as a reliable, member-centric brand setting new standards for innovative products and experiences. Her oversight includes marketing, advertising, corporate communications, member experience, community outreach, digital and business intelligence.

Prior to joining SECU, Becky was Chief Marketing Officer of EagleBank, the largest community bank in the DC Metro area. There she oversaw the strategic direction and execution of the advertising efforts, sponsorship relationships, promotional and event marketing programs, product development and various internal transformation efforts such as digital strategy.

She also worked as the Head of Marketing Services for a global consulting firm for 10 years. There she led engagements for 25 of the Fortune 500 companies, including: Microsoft, IBM, Humana, MasterCard, HSBC, Hilton and PayPal as well as other leading organizations in their field such as: Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Office Depot OfficeMax and Expedia.com.

Becky’s background includes 20+ years of agency and client-side experience. Jessica Watson is the CEO and Creative Director of Points North Studio, a creative services company based in Baltimore. She is a Brand and Communications Strategist who partners with dynamic companies and organizations to transform where they are into where they want to be. With over a decade of experience in marketing and design, Jessica knows what truly drives brand loyalty and conversions—and it’s not about jumping on the bandwagon of the latest trend, it’s about the passion you have for your work and how you connect with the people you serve. Jessica holds a BA in communication from McDaniel College and a Certificate in Memoir Writing from the University of Washington. When she’s not designing, you’ll often find her working remotely across the globe, kayaking on a lazy river, or planning her next community gathering through Have A Nice Day Project and Baltimore Womxn in Tech.
