Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Update

AMA Baltimore has been working toward becoming a more diverse and inclusive organization. In June, we sent you an update with our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) intentions for the 2020-2021 year. Much has happened since then, and we’re here to share some updates with you.

We are excited to welcome Ashley Young and Alex Kagwima to our board as VPs of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Both Ashley and Alex are committed to increasing DEI efforts in AMA Baltimore and throughout the Baltimore marketing community. Since joining our team, they have been working with fellow board members to create new initiatives and opportunities within AMA Baltimore, including:

  • DEI Statement. Our statement reads: “We are committed to creating spaces for people of color and being represented in the marketing industry. This includes providing career growth for BIPOC such as networking, internships, job opportunities, and other resources contributing to their professional development.”
  • DEI Internships (Spring 2021). This program will include cover letter/resume prep, interview coaching, and one-on-one mentoring. Details to follow.
  • Sponsored Memberships for College Students. We are offering 25 sponsored college memberships to AMA for BIPOC college students. Please reach out to Joe Wagner, VP of Collegiate Relations, for more information.
  • Monthly DEI Sponsored Events. This will include happy hours and networking opportunities for BIPOCs in the industry to connect with each other. Stay tuned for more information.

Our community is what makes our chapter great, and we welcome any insights and feedback that can make our chapter better. If you’re interested in joining our DEI committee, sponsoring events, becoming a collegiate mentor, or more, please reach out to Ashley or Alex.

Thank you for being a part of our community.
