Every year gets better and better for AMA Baltimore, and 2019 did not disappoint. Like most people, we cannot wait for a new year with fresh and exciting opportunities, but we’re proud to look back on the great year we had. Here are a few of our favorite 2019 achievements:
Award Winners
Our chapter was honored to be the recipient of two AMA Chapter Excellence Awards (CEAs) for our work in Finance and Communications over the 2018-2019 year. We are proud of our team of volunteers for their dedication and hardwork over the years to make this goal a reality.
Speakers & Mingles
Our speaker series continued to be a hit in 2019. Pandora talked to us about the sonic revolution. Sappi dove into the neuroscience of touch. Meredith Oliver came up from North Carolina to discuss FANtastic marketing, and Tim Asimos came in from Virginia to talk about websites, UX, and SEO. Baltimore’s own Port Discovery had an insightful presentation on non-profit marketing and messaging.
The AMA Baltimore community kept making connections and having fun with our #AMAMingle series. We had fantastic hosts in ELM, Mindgrub, Unleashed Technologies, Zest, Storyfarm, and Duckpin. Our next #AMAMingle will be on February 5th at Warschawski, and we hope to see you there.
Local Content
Baltimore has some incredible marketing talent, and we were thrilled to feature a few of those folks on our blog. In these interviews, we learned about voice search marketing, influencers, Gen Z, how to choose an agency, how to help clients, and more. We developed two series featuring insights from professionals in both graphic design and public relations. We continued to grow our case studies section and send out our monthly newsletter full of AMA Baltimore and local marketing news.
Our chapter debuted our first season of the AMA Baltimore Marketing Stories podcast. This podcast featured interviews with award winners from the 2019 MX Awards. Interviewees discussed their campaigns, shared tips and tricks, and more with listeners.
MX Awards
We rebranded our Marketing Excellence Awards (MEAs) into the fresh and fun MX Awards in 2019. Held at the Baltimore Visitor’s Center, guests enjoyed networking, sushi, and jokes by our emcee, Dave Rendall. Our Grand MX Campaign of the Year was awarded to the National Aquarium. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield was Runner-Up Campaign of the Year, and Mindgrub was 2nd Runner-Up for their work with Royal Farms.
Get ready for the 2020 MX Awards. This year’s event will be held at the Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Museum in Fells Point, and we cannot wait to celebrate with you. Call for Entry information will be coming out soon, so stay tuned.
Upcoming Programming
Our 2020 Mentor Connections program will kick off in January. This industry specific mentorship opportunity has always been unique, but this year will be better than ever. Neuberger & Company is partnering with AMA Baltimore to provide two workshops — one for Protégés and one for Mentors. Registration for the 2020 Mentor Connections program closed in December, but we will be accepting applications for the 2021 program this fall.
In 2019, we launched our Link+Think series, a deep-dive workshop built around a common interest or topic, with a concentration in Non-Profit marketing. Our next Non-Profit Link+Think will be on January 15th at The Associated.
Over the next year, we will be offering more workshops and small event opportunities to our members. If you are interested in hosting, sponsoring, or participating in anyway, please reach out to Dov Hoffman, VP of Programming.
